🐕 What to watch for in Austin: Lady Bird Lake sees its worst algae in late summer and early fall when the water is warm and slow-moving. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) looks like a green paint spill or pea soup on the surface. Keep pets out of any water with a visible scum — cyanotoxins can kill a dog within hours of exposure. Austin Parks & Recreation posts advisories at park entrances and on the city website when blooms are detected.
